Day 3 - Carrera Espana

…and the rain fell in buckets today.

Business: We had a good day rallying. We had a good time on the track (top five times) and a pretty good time in the three Regularities ( 1 second off, good; 1, good; and 4 not so good). We moved up to 11th in post-war cars, but remained in 5th in our class…..however we have a total of 42 penalty points and the second place car has 38 penalty points, so with some luck in scoring we could jump from 5th to 2nd.

Observation: The Spanish people up here in Cataluña are terrific; friendly, helpful. Their life is mostly agriculture; small individual villages with a prominent church.

We are staying each night in a string of inns called Paradores. They were created by the Spanish government. Originally, they were built in old castles or forts and usually have spectacular views. Ilene and I first stayed in them 40-50 years ago and they have only become better.

Tomorrow we expect more rain, but on our Rest Day in Salamanca we expect sun.
