Barcelona—Day -2

A bit of a lazy day. More rain (I think our last for awhile); waiting for our car to be delivered by the shippers; and meeting old friends who began arriving last night and this morning from all parts of Europe. Some friends decided to drive to Spain in their competition car; others took a 30-hour, overnight, ferry from the north of England; yet, others shipped their cars, like we did, and flew into Barcelona. All are anxious to get on the road.

It’s a bit ironic, but delays and cancellations of various car events over the last two years because of the pandemic, have made all of us that much more appreciative of the opportunity to drive and compete in these rallies. The folks that participate in these driving events are very different from those who display their cars in even the most prestigious Concours. I ’ve been fortunate to do both and the driving events are much more fun and satisfying. Cars were built to be driven!

Finally, our car arrived this afternoon. All in all she was in pretty shape. A big “thank you” to our friend Andy Prill (Porsche engineer extraordinaire), where we sent the car after last year’s rally in the Italian Alps. Andy did a fine job getting her ready for this event.

Once the car arrived, Brant went through it thoroughly; installing a cabin light to better see our Garmin and other instruments used in navigating the Regularity stages….especially in bad lighting at dusk.

Tomorrow, we’ll actually go through the “signing on” with the Organizers. We’ll get our numbers for the car and our Route book. The Organizers have set up a short course to test (and adjust, if needed) our measuring equipment. We’ll definitely run through that course a couple of times.

After that, we will be on to the Welcoming Dinner.

We just learned that immediately after our Monday start, we have a Speed Contest that will be run on the Formula 1 track here in Barcelona…….should be fun.

All our calibration instruments are all in
 good order.
Our baby has arrived in Barcelona….
in good shape.

  1. Hi Stanley. From one adventure straight on to the next. I love it. Have a great time in Spain and good luck to you and Brandt. Your Prill-prepared 911 should be bullet-proof. Barcelona is a great city to explore, especially all the Gaudi locations, as you say. The last time there we stayed in a bakery/hotel just a few doors from the Casa Familia. We woke to the smell of fresh baking - wonderful. Safe travels and all the best for this new adventure.
    Best,
    Dennis
